Following the shooting of the Jacksonville Jaguar’s tackle Richard Collier on Sept. 2 2008, some sports columnists, including Jason Whitlock, are questioning the amount violence surrounding professional athletes and the lack of concern expressed by the media and readers.
Whitlock, sports writer for FOXSports.com, addresses this issue in his column, “NFL’s cycle of violence keeps spinning.” He attempts to explain why such a high percentage of the professional athletes who find themselves in the middle of this violence are black.
